Friday NHL preview: New Jersey Devils at Toronto Maple Leafs

The Devils’ Kyle Palmieri notched two goals in each of his first three games this season, only the fourth player in NHL history to accomplish that feat. He scored again in his fourth game before cooling off, with one in his last four contests. He’s still among the league leaders, and Leafs centre Nazem Kadri may be assigned to shadow him.

The Devils won their first three games, but have lost six of their last seven. They get off to good starts in games, but fail to sustain their structure and momentum … Former Leaf Brian Boyle, diagnosed with a rare form of bone marrow cancer last fall, scored his career first hat trick on Monday — Hockey Fights Cancer day around the NHL … Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall is second on the team in points with 15, behind Palmieri (17), but has just three goals.

Quick turnaround for a Saturday night date with the Bruins in Boston, 7 p.m.
